Basset Mayhem

Welcome to a world ruled by (originally) 2 lovable and at times (sigh) exasperating basset hounds (now just 1 precious princess)! There is never a day that goes by without an "educational" experience for all to, um, learn from. And if asked if given a second chance to decide whether or not to be owned by a basset hound the answer is simple: YES!

WOW! What Fun!

Della's play date yesterday was terrific. We spent it with 5 of Cindy Miller's Rapscallion Bassets: Booker (7), Bobbi (5), and the three of the 9-month old pups--George, Cara and Gemma. What a wonderful pack of bassets. Della romped, ran, chased, played, flirted, raced and rolled with all of them. She hasn't had playtime in ages and it was a wonderful thing to watch. They all got along so well that I'm sure there will be future play dates down the road.

The red and white basset is Booker. The two other pups are Gemma (in the back) and George.

About Me

My photo

People think I've lost my mind because of the dogs--tough. That is simply the way it is. It is my SALVATION from reality! REALITY: There are 350 young minds out there that I am doing my damnedest to "save"--oh don't go all religious on me now because that's not how I mean it. Far too often people go through life PRETENDING to enjoy it and PRETENDING to be PART of it. If I can get the yearly 300-350 to LIVE it then in my humble (yet quite vocal) opinion, I have succeeded in life where so many others have failed. And if you don't understand what I have written don't waste your time trying to figure it out. Those that "get it," get it. And on another topic, let's talk about music for a moment, shall we? Simply put, RAP and HIP-HOP and anything else like it has about as much musical value as rush hour in LA.

If A Dog Were Your Teacher You Would Learn Stuff Like...

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face
to be pure ecstasy.
When it's in your best interest-practice obedience.
Let others know when they've invaded your territory.
Take naps and stretch before rising.
Run, romp and play daily.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting, when a simple growl will do. (Yep...)
On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lay under a shady tree.
When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
No matter how often you're scolded, don't buy into the guilt thing and
pout...run right back and make friends.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
Eat with gusto and enthusiasm.
Stop when you've had enough. Or, if you're
a Rottweiler, eat everything you possibly can...
Be loyal.
Never pretend to be something you're not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent,
sit close by and nuzzle them gently.
